Tile and Waterproofing
Tile and Waterproofing in Lakewood
The tile is the part you see, but the waterproofing behind it is the part that decides whether the shower lasts. Most of the failed showers we tear out in Lakewood were tiled straight over drywall or greenboard with nothing bonded underneath, so water soaked into the framing for years. Rainemu sets porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone over cement backer board and a bonded waterproofing membrane, built to TCNA Handbook methods and ANSI A118.10, so the wall behind the tile stays dry.
Why Waterproofing Matters More Than the Tile
- Tile is not waterproof. Grout and tile absorb and pass water. Without a bonded membrane behind them, the framing gets wet and eventually rots.
- It is the one thing you cannot redo later. You can regrout a surface, but you cannot add waterproofing without tearing the wall back out. It has to be right the first time.
- It protects the whole house. A properly waterproofed shower keeps moisture out of the subfloor and the room below it.
Our Process
We hang cement backer board, seal the seams and corners, and apply a bonded membrane across the pan and walls, then flood-test where it counts before a single tile goes up. Then we set the tile, choosing the right thinset for the material, and finish with a grout matched to the job. The waterproofing you never see is what you are really paying for.
